"Since their formation in 2018, Sweden’s TYRANN have quickly become a gold standard for rustic, turn-of-the-‘80s hard-rockin’ heavy metal…or perhaps that should be “heavy metalling hard rock”? Either way, the quartet have handily transcended their esteemed pedigree—members do or have done time in the likes of Enforcer and Tribulation—across two full-lengths, 2021’s 'Djävulens Musik' and 2023’s 'Besatt,' both showing acute focus and finesse but all done with a seemingly effortless air and a touch of evil.
Now, TYRANN return with arguably their best record yet, 'Tyrann Forever.' Aptly titled, 'Tyrann Forever' sees the Swedes running through their whole arsenal – thunder & lightning heavy metal, straight-between-the-eyes hard rock, moody & magickal AOR, and the galloping early Maiden-gone-punk of their earliest days, with an aplomb that’s patient and breathless simultaneously. The songwriting’s as taut as it comes, with eight songs spanning a half-hour, but TYRANN pack each to the gills with hooks that are stripped-down yet sublime. That they can somehow take garage ethics to stadium dynamics circa 1981 is some strange alchemy, to be sure, but it only serves to make their already-intimate personality that much more ingratiating.
