Cloven Hoof - s/t LP Gold
(Description from High Roller Records)
High Roller Records, reissue 2020, golden vinyl, ltd 400, 425gsm heavy cardboard cover, 2 posters, lyric sheet printed on uncoated paper, 8 page photo booklet, original transfer by Marcus Mossmann at PHONOGRAPHIC ARTIFACTS in March 2017. Mastering and audio cleaning by Patrick W. Engel at TEMPLE OF DISHARMONY in March 2017 / January 2020. Cutting by SST Germany on Neumann machines for optimal quality on all levels... The ultimate audiophile edition of this eternal NWOBHM classic! After the release of their self-produced debut EP »The Opening Ritual« in 1982, Cloven Hoof were on the verge of completing a major deal. The future could have looked very different for the NWOBHM legend from the English Midlands. "We were extremely close," says band founder and bassist Lee Payne today. “Of course it was devastating for us when it turned out that the deal would not go through after all. At that time there was a real hype about Cloven Hoof. We thought this would be the breakthrough. I assumed that we would be able to belong to the really big metal bands. Former Judas Priest manager David Hemmings offered to work for us as manager. It was an exciting time. Dave actually managed to negotiate a deal with CBS that would have changed our lives! Tragically, Dave passed away during the negotiation phase and as a result, CBS backed out. We were completely devastated." In the end, however, Neat Records stepped in and released Cloven Hoof's self-titled debut album in 1984. The reissue on High Roller Records is by no means the first vinyl re-issue of this immortal NWOBHM classic. However, the careful re-mastering by Patrick W. Engel and some stunning extras ensure that this is the ultimate edition. For the first time, Lee has given Payne full access to the full album photo session (performed by David Peters at Brierley Hill Town Hall). Many of the photos have not yet been published.
